Weekly Notes (33-38) - 2024

I have been away for a while, mostly due to personal matters—house shifting, losses in both families, and constant travel with unexpected tasks. My energy, both mentally and physically, has been quite low. I am doing much better this week. I’ve managed to jot down a few notes here and there but will keep this log brief, focusing on some key things that have been on my mind.

Musings

  • I like air travel, I find them to be a nice escape of time, even if its at a minuscule scale. In the past, I often failed to live in the moment, missing out on meaningful connections and experiences with people. I used to disregard the value of photos and videos, not realising that they serve as a crucial link to memories we can no longer access. Now, I understand their importance as a means of preserving moments. At this point in time, we may not know if we can ever return to certain experiences, but we can learn to slow down and be present. I would like to start with a place where the photos and videos are captured as a timeline. Currently exploring such apps.

  • Recently, I’ve been exploring the concept of privilege, particularly in relation to mental health. There’s more to write on this as I continue to reflect. But I realised that mental clarity, is in itself, a privilege; Not everyone can afford it all the time. It’s unrealistic to expect everyone to react the same way to life’s challenges. A supportive partner can make a world of difference and I'm thankful to mine for being a constant source of strength.

  • Money grants you certain privileges—such as the ability to travel or work on your own terms—but it doesn’t give you the right to treat others any lesser. I have often felt that, most of us, don’t always give every job the respect it deserves. Pay might differ depending on the agreement between employee and employer, but at its core, work is still work. Some roles come with more responsibilities, while others may offer quieter moments. Some people are confined to certain fields, while others have access to more comfortable environments. But in the end, every job is about solving problems and keeping routines, and all of them deserve respect. Unfortunately, in our country, caste and occupation are still closely intertwined. A perspective I would like at-least the next generation to consider.

Other Notes

  • The new house is great, and the family is doing well now. We’ve had our share of ups and downs, but things have levelled out.

  • We are constantly taking morning walks with Tars. He wakes us up between 6.30-7.00 and we walk at-least for about half hour.

  • Tars has been a great travel partner so far. He adapts easily to new surroundings and handles long trips well, mostly by sleeping, which makes things a lot easier.

  • I’m currently reading The City and the Stars by Arthur C. Clarke, so far the fantasy world escape pod has been comforting.

  • It’s been a while since I’ve listened to any podcasts, but with the new house, I should have more time for it. I do miss connecting with people, and starting next week, I’ll be heading out for work again.
