I got tagged by Thejesh to take up the challenge of blog questions 2 weeks back but I was feeling a little low with lot of things happening around politically and also personally. I’m feeling better now, and though I’m relatively new to blogging, I’d like to give this a shot.
Why did you start blogging in the first place?
I have always wanted a space to log my thoughts, a place that I fully own. I started with an online journal during my college days but I couldn't keep up with it—I was easily distracted at that age and at one point I deleted all my journals. Blogging, for me, is also about discovering new perspectives. Unlike social media, reading someone's journal or thoughts feels more intentional and personal.
What platform are you using to manage your blog and why did you choose it? Have you blogged on other platforms before?
Currently I am using Wix, but I want to move away from that. I like having control over my own space, which is why I run blog.haripriya.org by scrapping post from haripriya.org/blog-feed.xml. I have written a post about it. Whenever I publish a new post on Wix, it automatically updates on my custom blog. This is hosted as a docker in an EC2 instance under my own AWS account where I have other projects of mine which is experimented.
How do you write your posts? For example, in a local editing tool, or in a panel/dashboard that's part of your blog?
I collate my notes over a week or two. I use the Notes app because it syncs seamlessly across my devices, making it convenient. For weekly / bi-weekly notes especially, once I have enough thoughts jotted down, I refine them using Grammarly before moving them to Wix, where I expand and structure them into a proper post.
When do you feel most inspired to write?
I feel most inspired to write either when something is pressing on my mind or when I’m in a calm, reflective mood.
Do you publish immediately after writing, or do you let it simmer a bit as a draft?
I usually let my notes build up over a week or two. Lately, I've been preferring a bi-weekly rhythm because I tend to have more to say in that timeframe. But sometimes, I still post weekly if I feel like it.
What's your favorite post on your blog?
I enjoy writing about specific topics or memories, especially those related to travel and memories. Posts that capture something meaningful, or a motive, tend to be my favourites.
Any future plans for your blog? Maybe a redesign, a move to another platform, or adding a new feature?
I definitely want to move away from Wix and fully own my blogging space. I was introduced to Railway by a friend, but things keep evolving. What remains constant is my desire to build something that reflects my uniqueness and gives me control over my space.
Beyond blogging, I'm also working on some personal tools. I recently built a home-bot, and I have a few more projects lined up. I would like to work and dedicate a separate section of my blog to track their progress.
